Barbara Benedetti Newton

Biography

Barbara Benedetti Newton,A native of the Pacific Northwest, Barbara lives and works in Black Diamond, Washington. She attended the Burnley School of Professional Art – now known as Seattle Art Institute – where she studied with Bill Cumming and began her professional art career in 1965 as a fashion illustrator, working with pen and ink. In 1990, Barbara began creating fine art with colored pencil focusing on still life composition. Decades later, her primary mediums are pastel and oil.

Barbara is a member of numerous art organizations some of which are: Northwest Pastel Society (Distinguished Pastelist), Women Painters of Washington (Honored Life Member), International Association of Pastel Societies (Master Circle Honoree). She is a past President and Life Member of Colored Pencil Society of America.

Over the years, Barbara has been the recipient of over forty awards in show competitions. She has authored two books: Colored Pencil Solution Book and Pastel Drawing as well as featured articles in magazines such as Pratique des Arts, International Artist Magazine, American Artist and The Artist’s Magazine.

A long-time instructor at the Frye Art Museum, Seattle, and the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, Lincoln City, Oregon, she now teaches private sessions as well as contributing time to local art organizations.

Barbara’s work is published by two art print publishers as large format reproductions for home and office.
