Jannelle Loewen

There is thoughtfulness to Jannelle’s artwork, a focus attached to natural things found every day. Whether it is a golden edge to dark leaves, expressive form and light of falling water, or clay pots; each has the quality of a story, filled with emotion. The blacks evoke the darker elements; impediments to light, things and thoughts that cast shadows. Like veils, the darks operate as barriers of consciousness, but in art are examined and revealed within the frame of each painting, as mysteries of beauty found in nature and in the heart. Jannelle usually paints on handmade black or medium toned sanded paper, bringing form and mood out of the darkness. A re-experience. A journey of re-membering.
