Yuji Hiratsuka has spent approximately the last decade in the U.S. studying and teaching. He has had more than forty one-man shows in the U.S. His compositions have a slight suggestion of ukiyo-e prints, yet his interpretation and style are distinctively his own. His personal statement about his intentions in art express it best: “In my work I draw from the ancient and from the contemporary to express the mismatched combinations and hodgepodge that is Japanese daily life.” |
