  Reni Moriarity

Reni Moriarity moved to the Pacific Northwest from the East Coast in her late teens. She studied at the University Washington from1963 – 1968. She was greatly influenced by Japanese pottery while studying under Robert Sperry, Marie Woo, and Howard Koettler. She studied drawing with Norman Lundin.

For 20 years she was a professional potter. She became interested in Sumi painting as a means of decorating pots, and has come to love it as an independent art form. She has studied the art of sumi with Fumiko Kimura, Michi Osaka, and Betty Ling.

Reni’s work has been exhibited throughput the Puget Sound area, the United States and Japan. Her work has won major awards at the Sumi-e Society of America National Exhibit in Washington D.C. She lives in Longbranch, Washington with her husband, and enjoys gardening, cooking, reading, and travel.
